Vinetta Privacy Policy
Effective: July 31, 2026
Vinetta is a wine-pairing app built by an independent developer. This policy explains, in plain language, what data the app handles.
What stays on your device (and your iCloud)
Your wine collection, personal ratings, tasting notes, prices, pairing history, and photos you attach to wines are stored locally on your device. If you are signed into iCloud, this data also syncs to your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit) so it appears on your other devices. It is stored under your Apple ID and encrypted in transit and at rest — we cannot read or access it. We do not have a copy. Deleting the app deletes the local data; your iCloud copy can be removed by deleting the app's iCloud data in iOS Settings.
What leaves your device
- AI requests. When you use pairing recommendations, label scanning, wine-list scanning, or voice input, the relevant content (wine details, dish text, the photo you chose, or a short audio clip) is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to an AI provider (OpenAI) for one-time processing. We do not store this content on our server; we log only anonymous usage counts and token costs. The AI provider processes the content under its API data policy and does not use it to train models.
- Anonymous usage analytics. We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service, to count anonymized events (for example, “a pairing was generated”). No names, no wine data, no notes, no identifiers that can be linked to you. TelemetryDeck cannot reconstruct who you are.
- Crash reports. If the app crashes, a technical report (device model, OS version, stack trace) is sent via Sentry so the bug can be fixed. Crash reports are not linked to your identity.
- Anonymous session. The app creates a random anonymous ID to enforce fair-use limits on AI requests. It is not connected to your name, email, or Apple ID.
What we never do
- No account, no email, no password — we don't ask, so we can't lose it.
- No advertising, no ad tracking, no sale or sharing of data with data brokers.
- No cross-app tracking (the app never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt because it doesn't track).
Your choices
- You can deny camera, photo, and microphone permissions; related features simply won't activate.
- You can clear the app's AI response cache at any time in Settings.
- Deleting the app removes all local data and orphans the anonymous session.
